A human approach to changing lanes

Changing Lanes is built around a human approach—and I’m the human behind it.

Like many people at this stage of life, I’m navigating the practical and emotional demands of helping older family members organise, downsize and move. I’m also beginning to think about those changes for myself.

There is so much to do and remember. Different people are handling different tasks, everyone has a deadline, and you’re trying to make important decisions while managing the emotions that come with them.

Sometimes, you wish your mother would appear, sit you down, make you a cup of tea and help you deal with the practical things.

That’s the spirit behind Changing Lanes: someone who takes the time to listen, helps you make a plan and works through it with you.

Practical help, at your pace

We help you identify what needs attention, organise the details and coordinate the support you need. Whether you’re sorting belongings, preparing for a smaller home or gathering important information, your priorities guide the process.

Before work begins, we agree on the scope, responsibilities and costs with you. Where specialist help is needed, we can help you find suitable service providers and coordinate their involvement.

Care with what matters to you

Inviting someone into your home is personal. So is trusting them with belongings, documents and memories.

We approach that responsibility with care, discretion and respect for your choices.

We choose the people we recommend with care. Our selection process includes reviewing feedback, meeting providers and checking their references. As we work together, we also assess their reliability, care and quality of work firsthand.

Our aim is to build lasting relationships with dependable people who share our respect for you, your home and your belongings.

Supplier checks cannot guarantee another provider’s conduct or performance. Any separate services, costs and terms will be made clear before you commit.

Our role is practical planning and coordination. Legal, financial and other professional advice remains with appropriately qualified advisers.

Let’s work out your next step.

OUR SERVICES

Start with the help you need.

A personal consultation can help you make a plan. The Changing Lanes booklet gives you a place to organise important information and record your wishes.

Books, keys, papers and a plant arranged on a table.
Everyday belongings and paperwork to organise.

A little breathing room and a plan of your own

Initial consultation · R750 · Up to 45 minutes

When life is changing, there can be a lot to think about—and plenty of people telling you what needs to happen next.

Our consultation gives you space to talk about what is happening, what feels difficult and what matters most to you. We’ll listen, help you untangle the practical details and work out where to begin. You don’t need to have everything organised before we meet.

We understand that belongings, homes and paperwork often carry memories and emotions. Your priorities, comfort and readiness will shape the plan.

Something useful to take away

Within 3–5 business days after your consultation, you’ll receive:

  • Your personalised Proposed Plan, with clear next steps and priorities.
  • A flexible, indicative timeline that takes your circumstances and pace into account.
  • Checklists relevant to your situation.
  • The services you may need, with relevant supplier options and contact details.

The aim is to give you the information, resources and direction to take the next steps yourself, with confidence. This is a complete consultation package, with no obligation to purchase further support.

You choose how we continue

You’re welcome to use your plan independently and arrange services directly. There is no additional Changing Lanes fee for doing so.

If you would like someone alongside you, we can help with as much or as little as you choose—from one practical task to coordinating the wider project. Any additional work is discussed and quoted separately before you decide.

Meeting with you

In-person consultations are available within a 50 km radius of Northcliff. Travel is included in the price and does not reduce your consultation time. Elsewhere, we meet by video call.

The consultation costs R750, payable in advance. It lasts up to 45 minutes, with time to listen and focus on what you need most.

What we can help you plan

Sort through belongings and decide what to keep, pass on or let go.
